This March, Pete Steenland’s solo exhibit features a painting called SLICE. “ I sought to reveal the image of a dolphin with a sort of intricacy, as you’d see within a slice of stone, such as an agate. The painting evolved through four phases, unintentionally. The original painting (SLICE, Phase 4 The Final Phase.) has beneath its surface the remnants of all previous phases… and at Studios of Cocoa Beach, this will be the first time we’ll include a replica of each phase with explanation for the changes made. Enjoy the evolution of SLICE, –Along with his other artwork.”

Pete holds an AA degree in Art and Biology, and a BA from University of West Florida in Studio Art with an emphasis in Marine Sciences with special focus in Scientific Illustration of marine and aquatic organisms.  In addition to Pete’s educational background, he spent thirty-two years working on the seas as a licensed Merchant Marine Captain and as a Master of Vessels up to 3000 gross tons for Freight and Towing. Prior to this he was a Captain of 100 ton passenger vessels.

His work is created by using any combination of watercolor, gesso, oils, acrylics, Conti-crayon, India ink or other acrylic inks, cold water dye, and sometimes wood stain, crayons and oil pastels. In the "Shards & Bling Series", he adds scraps of plastic and other recyclable (or non recyclable) waste materials, and the bling portions of that may include scraps from broken jewelry, glass, etc.
