ALACHUA COUNTY, FL - Alachua County is seeking applicants for vacancies on the Healthcare Advisory Board. Applications must be received no later than Friday, February 17, 2023, to be considered for appointment at the February 28 County Commission Meeting.

There are 11 voting members and two alternate positions available. Some positions are reserved for nomination by specific agencies, and others are designated for applicants with specific expertise. Current openings include one doctor or nurse; one health care consumer who is representative of or low-income or Medicaid eligible; one mental health care professional; one dentist; and one pharmacist. There are also seats for a representative of a non-profit healthcare provider, a representative of a healthcare advocacy agency, and a representative of a healthcare agency that serves primarily low-income patients.

The purpose of the Advisory Board is to advise the County Commission on the health care and medical needs of low-income residents in Alachua County. The responsibilities of the Board include identifying specific gaps in health services currently available for low-income residents of Alachua County, providing expertise in designing programs for meeting identified service needs, keeping the County abreast of community healthcare needs and the progress made in addressing these needs, and identifying additional state and federal resources available for providing indigent health care in Alachua County.

“The Healthcare Advisory Board was instrumental in developing a pilot program, recently approved by the Board of County Commissioners, that trains and deploys Community Healthcare Workers in Alachua County,” said Alachua County CAPP/CHOICES Program Manager Jaye Athy.
