History:
1985- Edward Villella and Toby Ansin found Miami City Ballet.
1986- First studio opened at 905 Lincoln Road, Miami Beach.
1986- First performance on October 17 at the Gusman Center for the Performing Arts in Miami (Allegro Brillante, El Amor Brujo, Tschaikovsky Pas de Deux, Transtangos).
1986- First Broward performance at Bailey Concert Hall on the BCC campus.
1987- First Palm Beach performance later in the first season at the Duncan Theater.
1989- Moved from the Duncan Theater to the Palm Beach Auditorium.
1989- First Naples performance at the Philharmonic Center for the Arts.
1990- George Balanchine’s The Nutcracker™ Company Premiere at the Philharmonic Center in Naples.
1991- Moved from the Gusman Center to the Dade County Auditorium.
1991- Moved Nutcracker from Bailey Hall to the new Broward Center for the Performing Arts.
1992- Moved from the Palm Beach Auditorium to the new Kravis Center for the Performing Arts in West Palm Beach, opening with the Company Premiere of Jewels.
1993- MCB School founded by Linda and Edward Villella.
1994- First Edinburgh Festival participation (also in 1995).
1995- First Kennedy Center Performance (also in 2000, 2001, 2003).
1995- Moved from Dade County Auditorium to the Jackie Gleason Theater.
1996- Performed at the 1996 Olympic Arts Festival in Atlanta.
1999- Performed at the Saratoga Performing Arts Center (also in 2000).
2000- Moved to New Headquarters at the Ophelia & Juan Js. Roca Center on Miami Beach.
2001- Performed at Kennedy Center Balanchine Festival.
2001- Moved Broward Rep series from Bailey Hall to the Broward Center.
2002- Premiere of Giselle, first MCB full-length story ballet (other than Nutcracker).
2003- Performed at the Kennedy Center International Dance Festival.
2003- Premiere of Edward Villella’s The Neighborhood Ballroom.
2003- Premiere of Coppélia, MCB's second 19th century full-length story ballet.
2003-2004- MCB celebrates the centennial of Balanchine's birth with company premieres of four major works: Symphony in Three Movements, Ballo della Regina, Stravinsky Violin Concerto, and Symphony in C.
2004- Company premiere of Twyla Tharp’s Nine Sinatra Songs, MCB's first work by this great American master (followed by Push Comes to Shove in 2005 and "The Golden Section" in 2006).
2004-2005- Premiered Jerome Robbins’ Afternoon of a Faun and Fancy Free as well as Trey McIntyre’s The Reassuring Effects of Form and Poetry.
2006- Premiered Jerome Robbins’ Dances at a Gathering.
2006- Company debuts at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion at the Los Angeles Music Center.
2006 – Became a resident company at $440 million Carnival Center for the Performing Arts at the Sanford & Dolores Ziff Ballet Opera House.
2006 – Company opens its inaugural season at Carnival Center with the premiere of its new production of full-length Don Quixote.
2007- Company premiere of Twyla Tharp's masterwork In the Upper Room.
2007 – Finalized commission agreements with Twyla Tharp and Elvis Costello to creat a major new ballet with original music, to have its World premiere on March 28, 2008 at Carnival Center for the Performing Arts.
