Request for feasibility study to find flooding solutions approved
At the March 1 City Commission meeting, Congressman Michael Waltz zoomed in to share a special announcement from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE). Daytona Beach’s request for a feasibility study to address chronic flooding has been included in the USACE’s 2023 Work Plan for Army Civil Works program. The $3 million cost of the study will be federally funded through the Disaster Relief Supplemental Appropriation Act. A big thank you to Congressman Waltz and the many who advocated for this important study, which is a prerequisite to be eligible for federal funding.

City commissioners met Wednesday night and people who were not able to attend can watch a replay of the meeting from the convenience of their personal computer or mobile device.
At the meeting, commissioners approved Coronavirus Local Fiscal Recovery Funds grant agreements, a resolution accepting $512,500 from a Daytona Beach Racing and Recreational Facilities District grant for improvements at Jackie Robinson Ballpark and an incentive agreement between the City and Clyde Morris Phase V Partners, Ltd. regarding the building and managing of 227 affordable apartments

Look Twice…Bike Week officially starts Friday
Bikers will be rolling into town for the 82nd annual Bike Week. The 10-day motorcycle rally will be centered in Daytona Beach, particularly around Main Street, Dr. Mary McLeod Bethune Boulevard and Daytona International Speedway Boulevard.
Motorists should pay close attention to bikers while traveling the roadways, especially at night. Sharing the roads with thousands of bikers requires special attention so Look Twice. Save a Life.
Safety Tips
-Double check traffic at intersections before turning or pulling out.
-Always check blind spots before changing lanes.
-Leave at least a four-second distance between your car and a motorcycle in front of you.
-When passing a motorcycle, give a full lane to the motorcycle. Do not share lanes!
-Individual motorcycles may blend into a larger group and may be closer than you think.
-Avoid distractions such as talking on your cell phone, texting, eating or changing radio stations.
