Commissioner Souto Attended The Queen Sofia Spanish Institute Event At The Perez Museum
On Wednesday, May 18, 2022, Commissioner Souto attended the Queen Sofia Spanish Institute roundtable discussion "La Primera Globalization, The Voyage that Shaped the World", commemorating the 500th anniversary of the Magellan-Elcano Expedition around the world. The speakers at the event were Richard Kagan, Ph.D from John Hopkins University, Ida Altman, Ph.D from the University of Florida, Carla Rahn Phillips, Ph.D from the University of Minnesota, and Kris Lane, Ph.D from Tulane University.
The lecture resulted in a very informative presentation of this saga that is still big news in today's world, especially as it relates to world commerce and the relations of different peoples of the world. The presence of the former Queen of Spain, mother of the King of Spain, Felipe VI, added luster, distinction, and class to this very complete explanation of the men, the times, the difficulties, and the challenges that faced these fantastic leaders of world oceanic navigation, Magellan and Elcano.
