Miami-Dade County to honor older adults through "Seniors Who Serve" volunteer awards program

MIAMI-DADE ( November 27, 2023 )– The Community Action and Human Services Department (CAHSD) will honor older adult residents in Miami-Dade County for exceptional volunteer service through the “Seniors Who Serve” volunteer program.  Nominations open December 1, 2023, and close January 31, 2024. CAHSD’s Elderly and Disabilities Services (EDS) Division is leading efforts by accepting applications online.
“Miami-Dade County is better every day thanks to the invaluable contributions of our older adults”, said Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava. “In their legacies, we find the strength to build a brighter future for generations to come.”

Eligible nominees must be Miami-Dade County residents who are 60 years of age or older and have completed some form of volunteer service within Miami-Dade County. Volunteers can be nominated by county residents, elected officials, a public or non-profit organization, or through self-nomination. Winners will be recognized at a signature event in collaboration with EDS.

To be considered, nominees must have demonstrated volunteerism within any of the following categories:
-  Education/Mentoring
-  Health Care
-  Intergenerational Activities
-  Arts
-  Music and Entertainment
-  Public Service

Miami-Dade County’s Elderly and Disabilities Services (EDS) Division empowers county residents with free, culturally sensitive and quality services. EDS programs are conveniently located throughout Miami-Dade County at our Senior Centers. Some of the programs are:

-  Home-Delivered Meals
-  Case Management
-  In-Home support
-  Disability Services
-  Transportation

Volunteer Programs through RSVP

The Retired & Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) provides individuals aged 55 and above with the opportunity to dedicate their time, skills, and expertise. The program empowers the community and supports its needs while providing a high-quality experience for the volunteers. RSVP is a nationwide initiative supported by AmeriCorps Seniors, a federal agency, and at the local level by CAHSD. Collaborations are established with non-profit organizations and healthcare providers to identify areas of critical need within their communities and determine how volunteers can effectively address them. - Disaster Services
Staffing Call Centers
Providing annual hurricane safety training to residents
- Respite
Companionship
-Veterans & Military Families
Community Base activity that serves Veterans
Assisting with access to state and federal benefits
Assisting with Department of Labor Veterans Programs
