To commemorate the achievements of our local young authors and illustrators, the winners of our Literary Magazine contest will have their original short pieces read aloud and their artwork highlighted at this reception.

Don't miss this: Published authors Jan Eldridge (Evangeline of the Bayou), Brenda Hernandez writing as Isabelle Olmo (Queen & Conqueror, book one of the Queen’s Red Guard series and the novella collection The Rose of Suid & The Last Balik), and Arielle Haughee (Pling's Party) will open the reception with a discussion about creative writing.

Celebrate Black Literature at the African American Read-In

Saturday, February 25, 1pm

The Kissimmee Civic Center is the place to be on Saturday, February 25, 2023, to enjoy the African American Read-In event, in partnership with the City of Kissimmee. The African American Read-In is a unique open-mic style event that celebrates African-American authors and artists that made significant cultural and artistic impacts on our nation and the world. You are welcome to volunteer to read or perform a selection at this event. Either have a selection given to you OR you can bring your own piece. All pieces read must be created by an African American writer.
