Replacement of Bridge Will Close Micco Road at the Sottile Canal in Late January

From: Brevard County
December 28, 2023

Brevard County, FL - Micco Road will be closed to thru traffic for replacement of the existing bridge over the Sottile Canal, located southwest of Barefoot Bay in south Brevard. The road closure is expected to start late January 2024 lasting for a period of up to eight months.

Updated closure information and details will be provided as they become available. When the road closure at the Sottile Canal begins, all business and residential traffic will be detoured around the bridge for the duration of the project. Detours associated with this project will be conspicuously posted to alert drivers of the closed road.

Detour information:

 - Between Babcock Street and US-1 the east-west route will become Grant Road to Old Dixie Highway to Shell Pit Road instead of Micco Road

The current bridge, constructed in 1938, has surpassed its life expectancy. The replacement bridge includes two 11-foot travel lanes, 8-foot paved shoulders, and a barrier protected 5-foot sidewalk. The new bridge will also meet current standards and provide a better experience for our residents and visitors. The County’s Public Works Department will be pro-actively working with the contractor to expeditiously complete the work and reopen the road sooner, if possible.

For additional information, please call Public Works Administration at 321-617-7202.
