The Santa Rosa County Board of County Commissioners held a ribbon cutting this afternoon, Mon., Nov. 6, for Swenson Park, 1076 Circle Lane in Gulf Breeze/ Midway, to celebrate the recently renovated park. A pavilion at the park was also dedicated in honor of Margaret Cunningham, a long-time supporter of park who worked over many decades to make a place for families and children to enjoy. Improvements included:
- New playground equipment
- Basketball and tennis court renovations
- Updated picnic facilities
- Construction of a new fitness fun zone/play area
- Installation of exercise trail equipment
- Additional lighting
- ADA compliant parking improvements
"We are thrilled to announce the reopening of Swenson Park," said Commissioner Colten Wright, Chairman and District 5. "This park has been a landmark in our community since the 1960s and was renamed as Swenson Park in 1995 after Swaney Swenson, a prominent figure in the south-end community. The park has been a beloved destination for families and with recent updates, it is now more accessible to families and children of all abilities. We look forward to seeing everyone come together and enjoy the park for many years to come."
Funding for these improvements were made possible in part by the Local Option Sales Tax (LOST).
