The City of West Palm Beach Hosts Eva W. Mack Community Hub Ribbon Cutting

WEST PALM BEACH, FL - The City of West Palm Beach is proud to announce the ribbon-cutting ceremony for the Eva W. Mack Community Hub, the City’s newly constructed community resource center. The event will take place on Thursday, Jan. 11, 2024, at 10 a.m. at its new location, 1540 N. Australian Ave, and will mark the official celebration of the completion of the project.

The center is named in honor of Eva Williams Mack, the first African American female Mayor of West Palm Beach and founder of the Sickle Cell Foundation of Palm Beach County and the Treasure Coast. The community resource center is the new home of the Community Services Division and will continue to provide services traditionally offered through the City’s Vickers House, and other local non-profit organizations. Conveniently located in the City’s Roosevelt Estates neighborhood and next to the Urban League of Palm Beach County on Australian Ave, the center features two conference rooms, a multi-space room, a computer lab, a co-working space, storage and donation rooms, restrooms equipped with showers and various infrastructure improvements.

A total of $3.6 million in U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funds were used for the project. The center was designed to assure quality of life through the development of housing, and social and economic opportunities that will support residents in need.

Mayor Keith A. James expressed his enthusiasm for the completion of the Eva W. Mack Community Hub, stating, “The opening of the Eva W. Mack Community Hub is a moment that greatly impacts the future of our City. Our Housing and Community Development Department is not just building a center; we are constructing a comprehensive social service hub for West Palm Beach residents in need. All to assure quality of life through the development of housing, social, and economic opportunities that empower our residents and the homeless population in our City. As we unveil this space, we affirm our commitment to reaching out with essential services to West Palm Beach families facing the most challenging circumstances.”

The ribbon-cutting ceremony will include remarks from Mayor Keith A. James; CEO of Sickle Cell Foundation of PBC/Treasure Coast, Shalonda Warren; an Eva W. Mack family member; and other key stakeholders. Attendees will be able to tour the new building and see its unique and historical design elements.
