'Turtle Travels' Opens at Discovery Center - Jan. 20

OCALA, Fla. (Jan. 5, 2024) – The Discovery Center’s newest exhibit, Turtle Travels, opens to the public Saturday, Jan. 20, and will be on display through Saturday, May 11, at the Discovery Center, 701 NE Sanchez Ave. The center is open Tuesdays through Saturdays, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Explore the world of turtles and tortoises to learn about their various habitats, migration patterns, and the threats they face. Play a giant board game that navigates a turtle's migration route safely, see how shell shapes suit different lifestyles and habitats and design a turtle-friendly housing development. This interactive exhibit allows guests to see the view from a loggerhead sea turtle perspective as  they swim. This exhibit was provided with support from Jane's Trust and the Institute for Museum and Library Services.

General admission to the Discovery Center is $8 per person or $28 for a family of four. Annual memberships are also available for individuals and families. Additional educational opportunities include StarLab Planetarium shows, available every Saturday, 11 a.m., 1 p.m., and 3 p.m., and Spy Science Saturdays, available only the second Saturday of each month, 12:30 to 1 p.m. for a $3 add-on to the price of general admission.

The Discovery Center will be closed to the public from Sunday, Jan. 7 through Friday, Jan. 19 for installation of the new exhibit.
